Susan Young is a local artist and has been professionally creating since 1995. She moved to Weston with her parents and three siblings in 1978 and still resides in town, having raised three children who all graduated from WHS. She studied faux finishes and decorative painting techniques for two years at The Finishing School in Long Island and went on to form her own faux-finish studio In Good Taste. During that time she worked for several local interior designers, redefining furniture and walls for their clients. Additionally, she worked in the Tuscan-style home of Joseph Abboud for five years, going from room to room, transforming walls, trim, and mirrors to fit the antiquated theme of the structure. In 2006, inspired by Abboud’s career in fashion design, Susan launched her first collection of women's contemporary sportswear collection under the moniker of Launch by Susan Young. After ten successful seasons, Susan transitioned to surface/pattern/print design after becoming adept at creating her own patterns for her dresses. She formed a partnership with long-time friend and interior designer and blogger Tamara Stephenson and the two of them created Root Cellar Designs, a fabric and wallpaper design and manufacturing studio, now repped in showrooms all over the country and sold to the trade. During that time, Susan became more and more enthralled with the limitless and often randomness afforded to the artist via the digital art process. She now uses the honed digital art skills that she has acquired over the last seven years to create unique, graphic, and sublime images that she prints on glass as well as acrylic. Each piece is part of a limited edition and is numbered as such. Susan is also currently working on a mural at the children's wing of Christ and Holy Trinity Church in Westport, CT.
